Premiered by Melody Fader and Doori Na with New Chamber Ballet Dancers May 28 & June 4, 2021 at Mark Morris Dance Center, NYC.
The Mill is the first part of the hour long dance work Sea, written for New Chamber Ballet and choreographed by Miro Magloire in 2021 and revived on June 30 & July 1, 2023.
Program Note:
This score references the famous Pansori melody Bangataryeong, which tells the story of Simbongsa grinding grain in a mill for certain ladies he meets on his way to the party at the palace.
This score incorporates a few Korean instrumental embellishment techniques.
